Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints strengthens my faith in Christ because I know that there is a genuine and true priesthood authority acting for God on earth, witnessing of Christ and addressing spiritual and humanitarian needs. My testimony of Christ grows through meeting together each week with individuals professing common beliefs and values and seeking common goals, following the commandment to look after one another. I feel strength in knowing that believers are organized locally and throughout the world, working towards good. I know that the scriptures and the prophets are the source of what we know about God and that through prayer and personal revelation I can know they are true (Moroni 10:4). Heading the church are God our Father in Heaven, his son Jesus Christ, our creator and savior, and the Holy Spirit, our comforter and guide. I know that they are one in purpose and that Christ sought for us all to be one in purpose. Receiving a calling to serve in the church gets me out of my comfort zone and encourages me to do more, learn more, become better. I do not just pick and chose what I want to do. I learn from people I might not otherwise get to know.
Being a part of Christ’s church on earth keeps me focused on things that matter –
eternal life,
choices,
families,
being male and female,
being a helpless infant, growing and learning, aging and passing on through death, with faith intact.
Knowing that temptation, sin, and Satan exist and seek to draw us from truths even while presenting half-truths, I do not want to take this walk alone.
Knowing and learning the power of obedience, the hope that is offered us through Christ and following Him, is easier when held accountable by fellow believers.
The universe is a place of organization. We as humans have organized ourselves over the centuries. Organization is how we run our homes, businesses, and lives. The church organization functions to draw us close to God and lead us away from sin and temptation, from deception, from where good is called bad and bad is called good.
Being a member of the church makes me less worldly. It gives me pause. It brings me into a personal relationship with Christ. I grow in my knowledge of Christ, of love, forgiveness, repentance, mercy, and eternal truths. I benefit from the clarity of authority, accountability, and constancy demonstrated by those who have pledged their time, talents, and resources to God, to doing his work. I am grateful for humble, caring, and above all, sacrificing leaders whose examples bring me closer to my Father in Heaven, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
And finally, in this world of uncertainty, church is a place where one is inspired and uplifted, where one is upheld in prayer, where one is a part of everything good that we can do. It’s a wonderful place to spend Sundays and other meeting times! Special relationships are built and developed there, ones of eternal consequence. Worshiping God together and celebrating His hand in the world is as good as it gets!
Being a member of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints does strengthen my faith. Mainly because it teaches correct principles about the nature of God. It teaches me that I can comprehend God. He is not a “something” or a “spirit” that is out there in space somewhere, who is transcendent and metaphysical. The Church teaches me, and it makes such sense to my soul, that Heavenly Father is my Father, literally, of my Spirit. That He is a perfected being who once lived on an earth just like I am. He KNOWS what I am going through, because He’s gone through it. The Savior, also, has lived on this earth and has gone through “mortality” and knows what it’s like. I don’t think I could ever come to trust and rely on a God that knows nothing about what I’m feeling, thinking, and living in this lifetime. The Church teaches me that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are all ONE GOD IN PURPOSE but THREE SEPARATE BEINGS in person. That makes all the sense in the world to my heart and mind. I can comprehend them better because I understand them better through the teachings of the Church. I know and have greater faith in them because I know who they are, I know what they are, and I know that they are with me every step of the way, knowing exactly how and what I feel. I am so thankful for this knowledge! I could not live my live not knowing what I know. I would feel so distant from “God” if I did not know He was my Father, my “Daddy” in Heaven, who is there to guide me, counsel me, protect me, and help me. He is real. He is alive. And I can become just like Him – because the Savior told me so in the scriptures (Bible AND Book of Mormon.) How blessed we are! And to know that Heavenly Father and the Savior love ALL of my brothers and sisters in the world, no matter what they’ve done, just as much as they love me, and that they have prepared a way for ALL humans who have ever been born into this world to make it back to them for eternity, makes me feel save in their love and care. I love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. I only wish I lived more worthy of their love and blessings. The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints truly is God’s only true church upon the face of this earth, and I am so thankful to have it in my life. It makes me happy when skies are gray! It truly does! It gives meaning and purpose to my life, regardless of what chaos might happen in my life!
Well, the Book of Mormon is kind of a big deal, having another scriptural record of Christ’s divinity adds strength and power to the testimonies of the prophets and the apostles in the Bible. Everything in this church points to Jesus Christ and his Atonement. All the ordinances are designed to do that. That’s what the Law of Moses was intended to do, and that’s what the ordinances today are intended to do. Every week I go to church and take the sacrament, I am reminded, again and again, of what He has done for me. Every time I read the scriptures, I am reminded of what He has done for me. Every time I go to the temple…same story. I love being a member of this church, because with full priesthood authority, we have full access to his Atonement, and the ability to become clean and pure through his blood.
